Experts and trade groups have warned that Argentina may be unable to source enough beef to meet domestic demand while also hiking its shipments to the U.S., potentially derailing President Donald Trump’s plan to purchase the country’s supplies to address rocketing U.S. prices .

“We are the world’s top consumers of beef. There’s not much room to export more,” Javier Preciado Patiño, Argentina’s former undersecretary of Agricultural Markets, told United Press International on Wednesday. He added that without a significant increase in productivity, the country would be unable to meaningfully address the U.S.’s shortfall.

Newsweek has contacted the White House and Argentina’s agricultural ministry for comment via email.
