Authorities in Wales have closed several roads in Bridgend due to the discovery of an unexploded wartime bomb. The incident has led to the evacuation of nearby supermarkets, restaurants, offices, and a building site, prompting police to advise the public to steer clear of the area. South Wales Police received a report of the unexploded ordnance device shortly before 1.10pm today. In a statement, they confirmed, "We were called just before 1.10pm this afternoon with a report of an unexploded ordnance device having been found in Cheapside, Bridgend." As a precautionary measure, Tremains Road and Cheapside have been closed. The police have also urged the public to avoid Brackla Street, particularly from Castle Bingo down to Wilko's, as well as the Plumb Centre, Papa John's, and the Honda dealership. The evacuation includes major retailers such as Aldi and Asda, along with Brackla House and the construction site on Cheapside. This incident marks the second time in four months that unexploded ordnance has caused disruption in the area, following a similar occurrence in July when two devices were found on the same day. Authorities are continuing to assess the situation and have not yet provided a timeline for when the area will be safe for the public to return. Residents and visitors are urged to remain vigilant and adhere to police instructions as the situation develops.
