David Ball, who made up half of innovative English synth-pop duo Soft Cell, has died. He was 66 years old.

Ball died peacefully in his sleep at his London home on Tuesday night, Oct. 22, his bandmate Marc Almond wrote in an online statement .

Ball’s death came after Soft Cell played for more than 20,000 fans while headlining Rewind Festival in Henley-on-Thames in August, according to a statement on the band’s website .

“We’re deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dave Ball,” the festival wrote in an Instagram post . “Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and everyone who loved him. It was an absolute honour to have him with us at Rewind Festival 2025. A moment that will stay with us forever. His music, talent, and spirit will never be forgotten.”
