All schools in a Westchester County district were placed in a lockout Thursday morning, Oct. 23, due to police activity in the area, according to officials.

In an announcement made around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, the Peekskill City School District said all buildings were secured as a precaution.

"This message is to inform you that ALL Peekskill schools have been placed in a lockOUT due to police activity in the area," the district said, adding, "All children are safe and normal instruction is continuing. The campus is closed at this time and no one is allowed to enter or exit the buildings."

The lockout was lifted as of 12:30 p.m. 

The district did not immediately provide details about the nearby police activity.
