BC Hydro says crews are working to restore power to around 20,000 customers Thursday morning after a massive outage in the Lower Mainland south of the Fraser River.

The utility says a major transmission circuit failure is affecting customers on grids in Langley Township, Maple Ridge, Surrey and Abbotsford.

Callers say traffic lights in the area are still functioning.
