GRAND FORKS — UND first experimented with the destination game concept in January 2012, playing in Winnipeg at the home of the Winnipeg Jets.
The game was originally supposed to be against Dean Blais and the Omaha Mavericks.
Due to a scheduling issue, Omaha pulled out.
UND went looking for a new opponent and found one — the Clarkson Golden Knights.
UND won 3-1 in front of 7,075 fans, who nearly filled the lower bowl.
UND trailed 1-0 after the first, but Carter Rowney scored twice in the second to turn the game. Dillon Simpson assisted on both goals. Mark MacMillan iced it with a goal in the final minute.
Since then, the Fighting Hawks have gone on to play in Las Vegas twice, Nashville, New York City, and are scheduled to play in Austin, Texas, and Belfast, Northern Ireland, the n
