A Maryland jury has convicted a 27-year-old man of murdering and robbing a Gaithersburg victim who was found shot in the head and dumped in a wooded area off Game Preserve Road.

DeAngelo McRoy, 27, will likely spend the rest of his life in prison after being convicted of his role in the murder of 35-year-old Delondre Sawyer, the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office announced on Thursday, Oct. 23.

According to investigators, Montgomery County Police responded to the 11200 block of Game Preserve Road in Gaithersburg around 7 a.m. on Feb. 8, 2024, where Sawyer’s body was discovered in a wooded area with a gunshot wound to the back of his head.

Detectives determined that Sawyer was behind the wheel of a 2013 gold Honda Accord when he was shot and killed.

His body was later dumped nearby.

The vehicle was then seen on surveillance video at a Sheetz gas station in the 700 block of Progress Way in Gaithersburg, and was later recovered by police in the 19000 block of Breezedale Lane in Germantown.

Court records show three others were inside the car when the shooting occurred, including McRoy and co-defendant Quinnton Brown, 38.

A third person, Alicia Carson-Brown, later admitted to being in the vehicle and pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to first-degree murder.

According to the charging documents, Carson-Brown told detectives she heard a loud “boom” from her side of the car and “observed blood in the vehicle.”

She said it wasn’t her or McRoy who pulled the trigger.

McRoy, who has no fixed address, was convicted following a 12-day trial of:

  • First-degree murder;
  • Armed carjacking;
  • Armed robbery;
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

When he is sentenced in April 2026, he faces life in prison plus 70 years.

Brown is still awaiting trial, facing first-degree murder, armed robbery, and armed carjacking charges. His case is scheduled for June 22, 2026.
