Colington family displaced after E-bike battery catches fire

Early Sunday, October 19, the CVFD was called to a fire in a residence on Broadbay Drive. A Lithium-Ion battery experienced an issue and went into thermal runaway. Though it’s relatively small, the E-Bike battery caught fire, and a significant amount of toxic smoke was produced, making a very dangerous event for the family.
The battery was less than two weeks old and was not being charged when the incident occurred. One person was evaluated by Dare
