DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) - A senior at a Des Moines high school has been detained and deported by immigration enforcement, according to advocacy group Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice (Iowa MMJ).
According to Iowa MMJ, the 18-year-old was detained during a check-in at the Federal Building in Des Moines on September 30.
He attended the immigration check-in with a guardian and immigrants’ rights advocates. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained the student before he was transferred to Hardin County Jail, and later to a detention center in Louisiana, where he was deported.
The student is from Central America. Iowa MMJ did not answer follow-up questions about how long he had been in the U.S.
