Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a number of bilateral meetings with European leaders on the sidelines of their European Union summit in Brussels on Thursday.

Zelenskyy sat down with French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and Finland's Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, among others.

The meetings came as the European Union imposed more economic sanctions on Russia, adding to measures by U.S. President Donald Trump against the Russian oil industry.

The sanctions aim to cut off revenue and supplies fueling Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.

Zelenskyy welcomed the sanctions, and urged more nations to join.

The EU measures target Russian oil and gas, banning imports of liquefied natural gas and adding port bans on ships.

Russian officials have dismissed the sanctions as ineffective.
