The Detroit Pistons’ coaching staff is a family affair now. The organization brought in Bernie Bickerstaff, the father of coach J.B. Bickerstaff, to serve as an advisor to the staff and his son this summer, J.B. announced in an interview on Fox 2 Detroit , Tuesday night.

The elder Bickerstaff, who has over 40 years of NBA coaching experience, previously served in an advisory role with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

“It was just a recent thing, we did it in August. We didn’t announce it, we didn’t make a public announcement about it. We hired him as an advisor to our coaches and to myself, obviously,” J.B. said. “He was just here for us, he’ll be in town about a week every month and then he’ll travel, go see some games and things like that.
