RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Millions of children across the nation ride on a school bus every day – that’s why school bus safety is important.

October 20-24, 2025 is National School Bus Safety Week. Many drivers on the road, school bus drivers and students are accustomed to some of the more routine measures, such as not passing when the bus has its stop sign out and lights are on. However, there are other aspects that they may not think about when meeting a school bus on the road.

Here are some tips for both students and drivers to keep in mind:

Keep a Safe Distance : When waiting for the bus, students should stand at least 10 feet away from the edge of the road.
