Free agency will begin shortly after the World Series ends, so clearly, we are getting close to that, and with that adjustments in many teams’ 40-man rosters.

I thought it would be interesting to look at the Cubs’ 40-man roster and how it will shape up after free agents are deleted.

Here is the 40-man roster as it appears now. All the players who were on injured lists other than the 60-day were activated after the Cubs were eliminated from the postseason.

Just one Cubs player remains on the 60-day injured list: Justin Steele. The day after the World Series ends, all players on the 60-day must be activated, so that’ll happen then. Since Steele might not be ready for the start of the 2026 season, he could wind up back on the 60-day in March, when that list is first opened next year. That’
