KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A woman is dead after a shooting outside of an apartment in East Knoxville on Thursday afternoon, the Knoxville Police Department said.

KPD said officers responded to a shooting at 1900 Washington Avenue around 1:15 p.m., with a preliminary investigation revealing the woman was shot during a confrontation involving two other men.

"The woman was transported to the UT Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital," KPD said.

Police said one man was treated at the hospital for injuries sustained during the fight outside the apartment. KPD said the suspect left the scene after the shooting and that the suspect is not in custody.

KDP said detectives are pursuing all active leads.
