"I'm certain [he] will kill me one day," the ex-wife of a former member of the US Air Force has told the ACT Supreme Court.

"Your crimes against me have left an indelible scar on my soul."

On Tuesday, October 21, the Canberra woman recounted how her ex-husband created an "atmosphere of terror", strangling her while she was driving and when she slept, and threatening to kill her in front of their daughter.

On one occasion, he suffocated her with a pillow until she felt her life "slip away" and believed she would die.

The man, who is not named to protect the identity of his victims, pleaded guilty to four counts of choking in an act endangering health and one count of threatening to kill.
