HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The former Hastings Middle School building that has sat empty for nearly two decades is set to be redeveloped into a 65-unit apartment complex as part of a $15 million project.
The former Hastings Middle School, built in 1917, closed in 2008 and has remained vacant since then. The redevelopment project recently received approval for an EPA grant to remove asbestos from the building.
Director of Development Services, Kevin Kubo said there’s a lot of advantages to repurposing the building into an apartment complex.
“It keeps people closer to our downtown where the restaurants are. We’ve spent a lot of money on redeveloping our downtown districts. And this is another step in keeping people in our downtown,” Kubo said. “Offering a place to live, a place to eat, mov
