U. S. Steel will restart battery 14 at the Clairton Coke Works on Thursday, slightly two months after the collection of ovens was part of a deadly explosion at the facility .
The company said Wednesday that all necessary repairs have been completed and startup is expected in the afternoon “following final safety checks and equipment evaluations.”
The company did not provide an update on battery 13, which also was damaged in the explosion.
“All procedures will be carried out with a strong focus on safety and environmental compliance,” U.S. Steel said in a statement, adding that it notified and will continue working with the Allegheny County Health Department.
