El Comité de Longmont, a nonprofit serving the local immigrant community, is this year’s winner of the annual Polly Baca Raíces Fuertes Community Service Award.
Started by U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse in 2020, the award honors groups and individuals providing committed service to Latinos in Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District. The award is named after Polly Baca, who was Colorado’s first female Hispanic state senator.
El Comité was recognized for its affordable and free services, including English language classes and immigration attorney consultations, according to a news release from Neguse’s office. The award was presented by Neguse during Hispanic Heritage Month.
