Carson Wentz's career was given new life when the Minnesota Vikings signed him after training camp as a veteran backup for J.J. McCarthy.

Wentz got his chance early this season, with McCarthy dealing with an ankle injury he suffered in Week 2. The Sam Darnold comparisons naturally surfaced as Wentz is another veteran quarterback who could undergo a career revival under head coach Kevin O'Connell.

However, approaching his fifth start for the Vikings, Wentz may be facing his final chance to play in the NFL ahead of a "Thursday Night Football" matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.

According to Darren Wolfson of local ABC News affiliate KSTP, no matter how Wentz performs, J.J. McCarthy will be given back the starting job as early as next week against the Detroit Lions.
