CHILTON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) -- The owner of a dog obedience training facility in Verbena was found guilty of cruelty to animals Thursday.
Cupid Seymour, of Verbena, was initially found guilty of cruelty to animals in April. Seymour was sentenced to one year in the county jail, with 180 days imposed and two years of probation. He was also ordered to pay $3,500 in restitution and a $1,000 fine. Seymour appealed his conviction and was retried, where he was again found guilty.
Seymour is the owner of Cupid's Dog House. In September 2024, a four-month-old puppy was enrolled in its dog obedience training course. The dog was boarded with Seymour for three weeks before Seymour informed the owner that the dog had died. A necropsy conducted showed that the dog had no food in its GI tract.
