Just days after Aussie journos were allowed to sample the electric BYD Atto 2 , a new plug-in hybrid variant has been revealed in Europe.

BYD is being coy with details about the Atto 2 DM-i's drivetrain, revealing only that there will be two options, each with a different battery pack, total power output, and range estimates.

The company claims one variant will have a combined hybrid and EV range of 1020km, as well as an electric-only range of 90km.

There will be some subtle visual differentiation between the electric and plug-in hybrid Atto 2 models. DM-i variants will have a slightly different badging and a tweaked design for the lower air intake, which a larger open area to draw more air into the engine bay.

The Midnight Blue paint seen above is exclusive to DM-i models.
