HOPE MILLS — An attorney tasked with investigating alleged racist remarks made by a Hope Mills commissioner in September told the town's board at a special meeting Oct. 22 that "it's more likely than not that Miss Craver made the statement … 'There are too many Blacks running the town.'"
Mac McCarley, a Charlotte attorney, said at the meeting that his findings concerning censured Commissioner Elyse Craver came after interviewing Craver, her friend Ruth Farley, Roy Young, to whom Craver is said to have made the statement, and Young's friend Damon Ritz. The conversation reportedly happened at a Waffle House on Sept. 11.
