Massachusetts residents need to make almost $900,000 a year to be in the top 1% of earners in the state.

A new Business Journals analysis of the latest IRS earnings data found that the state has the third highest cutoff to make it into the top tier of earners. Massachusetts ranks only behind Washington D.C. and Connecticut.
