A Sioux Falls man convicted of killing cats pled guilty earlier this month to two counts of animal cruelty and will now serve prison time.

According to previous reporting , Cory Martinson, 34, was charged last spring with four counts of cruelty to animals and six counts of neglect, abandonment or mistreatment of an animal, according to court documents.

On Oct. 10, Judge Susan Sabers sentenced Martinson to five years in prison, with five years suspended and 143 days credited as time served.

According to South Dakota law , animal cruelty is a class 6 felony punishable by up to two years in prison and a $4,000 fine for each charge.
