BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The Kern County Fire Department was awarded a grant to purchase new extraction equipment to safely rescue crash victims trapped in vehicles.
The extraction equipment is known as the "jaws of life," according to the fire department.
Delays in helping crash victims negatively impacts the "golden hour," which is a principle in emergency medical services.
The grant was over $90 thousand, according to fire officials.
