Penn State took another hit in its recruiting after the firing of longtime head coach James Franklin .

Class of 2026 defensive lineman Alex Haskell flipped his commitment to Syracuse on Wednesday , he announced on social media. The Philadelphia St. Joe’s Prep standout had been committed to the Nittany Lions since May 9 .

This decision came just one day after Haskell said he was “reopening” his recruitment while staying committed to Penn State . That choice followed a trend for many of Penn State’s 2026 commits in the wake of Franklin’s departure . Prospects who have done so are now visiting and contacting other schools.

Haskell is a three-star prospect, according to the 247Sports composite . At 6-4 and 265 pounds, he ranks 630th in the class and 78th at his position. He pro
