A Highland Square residential complex operated by the Daughters of Divine Charity is closing, the Roman Catholic religious order's U.S. leadership announced in an Oct. 17 memo to residents of Francesca Residence and Leonora Hall.
"The decision was not made lightly nor in haste," Sister Mary Coffelt, superior for the Holy Family Vice-Province said, noting that it was made with "a very heavy heart."
"Despite our best efforts, Francesca Residence and Leonora Hall has continued to face financial challenges. While expenses and major repair needs have increased, revenue has not. Unfortunately, this fact has made continued operation for Francesca Residents unsustainable" for the order, she said.
Residents and their families have been asked to make arrangements to relocate no later than Dec. 1.
