A person was killed and two others injured after a Union Pacific train and a vehicle collided in Elgin Thursday morning.

Around 6:30 a.m. Elgin police responded to a crash involving a Union Pacific train and a pickup truck at the railroad crossing located at State Street north of Locust Street, authorities said.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and two others were transported to a local hospital, authorities said. The person who died was a passenger of the vehicle, authorities said.

Metra said none of the train crew was injured.

There was a heavy police presence in the area just before 8:30 a.m., though the crash was not impacting service on the Milwaukee West line as of 8 a.m. according to Metra.
