TELFAIR COUNTY, Ga. — A mobile mammography coach traveling through rural Central Georgia has screened nearly 1,300 women since beginning its route in January, addressing a critical gap in health care access for underserved communities.

The initiative, a partnership between Atrium Health Navicent and the University of Georgia Extension Service, brings breast cancer screening directly to women in Telfair County and surrounding areas who previously faced significant barriers to routine care.

Laura Smith, a Telfair County resident, said transportation challenges made regular mammograms difficult to obtain before the mobile unit arrived.

"It was absolutely about the convenience, but it was also more about transportation issues," Smith said.
