TYLER, Texas — Multiple charges have been dropped against a Tyler man who was accused of being involved in a suspected Smith County dogfighting ring last year.
Michael Cameron Jones, 32, pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana Thursday afternoon in the 241st District Court. He was then sentenced to 11 months in a state jail facility, court officials said.
He has served 13 months in the Smith County Jail since last September.
Michael Jones along with his brother Kerry Jones, 36, were also charged with animal cruelty and dogfighting for a September 2024 investigation after the Smith County Sheriff's Office found 59 injured dogs and dogfighting equipment on their property.
However, after the prosecution reviewed evidence it seemed the state would not be able to prove the animal cruelty
