Members of the McKinney Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team say their training prepared them for a once-in-a-lifetime mission.
When seconds counted, the team quickly determined the best approach to rescue a tow truck driver whose cab was left dangling over a concrete barrier on the Sam Rayburn Tollway.
The driver lost control while trying to avoid a disabled vehicle and struck the barrier, leaving his cab suspended above the roadway.
Firefighters broke through the cab window, got the driver onto a ladder, and slowly brought him down to safety.
“I just prayed, I said, ‘God, give me the clarity, the courage, the calmness to do my job.’ And from there, it was just kind of like, here we go,” said Jordan Goode, firefighter and paramedic.
