GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) - After a soft summer, many in Gatlinburg were worried the federal government shutdown could make for a bad end to 2025. Now, they’ve got signs of hope as the national park stays open, thanks to funding from state and local governments.
The leaders in Gatlinburg are optimistic for a strong finish this year. Even with the federal government closure, they’ve kept the national park open for now, wondering what happens in the future.
Bryan and Cathy Blair are on their first trip to the Smokies from Arkansas and are exploring what fall has to offer.
“We’re doing some exploring, hoping to see a bear, an we have, a nice one,” they said. “Just seeing the scenery, it’s beautiful over here. Very beautiful,” they said.
