OMAHA, Neb. —
A new housing development at 29th and Jackson in Omaha is set to include six townhomes and a mural.
It's funded by a $5.8 million grant from the North and South Omaha Recovery Program, that will also aid in the construction of a new global market in South Omaha, as well as help renovate the current International Bakery in South Omaha.
"There is a deficit in Douglas County in housing in Omaha and so, it is not in very good shape. So we said we need to have a component of housing." Marta Sonia Londono, who worked to secure the grant funding, said.
Almost $1 million will be allocated to the townhomes. Developers emphasized the cultural significance of the project as how the projects were chosen. The mural, which will be visible from Highway 75, is a key feature of the develo
