Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia is currently not with the team, on the eve of the World Series. That puts his roster status in doubt, though that is the far less important component of this news.

“It’s with a heavy heart that we share that Alex Vesia is away from the team as he and his wife Kayla navigate a deeply personal family matter,” the Dodgers said Thursday in an issued statement. “The entire Dodgers organization is sending out thoughts to the Vesia family, and we will provide an update at a later date.”

The Vesias announced in April they were expecting the birth of their first child, with Kayla due some time in the fall. The pair celebrated on the Dodger Stadium field together last Friday after winning the National League pennant in Game 4 against the Brewers.
