Recreational and commercial fishing will be restricted in areas worst hit by South Australia's devastating algal bloom, as assessments show "severe declines" in popular seafood species.
Bag and boat limits will also be halved for recreational fishing, as will passenger bag limits for charter boat fishing. Restrictions will be imposed on November 1 for all commercial fishing of marine scalefish and blue crab in the Gulf St Vincent and Kangaroo Island fishing zone.
Stock assessments show calamari, garfish and King George whiting had experienced severe declines in the Gulf St Vincent and around Kangaroo Island.
Blue crab had also suffered a decline and abalone had experienced "localised high mortality", but there was no evidence of an impact on commercial prawn catches.
