LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Supreme Court has reversed another court's decision in a 2020 murder conviction on Thursday.
Kevon Lawless was convicted in the murders of Brandon Waddles and his 3-year-old daughter, Trinity Randolph as well as one count of burglary, and sentenced to life without parole.
Lawless appealed for a mistrial, according to the court's opinion, because a juror found out that a witness in the case was arrested and charged with perjury due to lying on the stand in the trial. The juror then told the rest of the jury.
The Kentucky Supreme Court then decided his mistrial should have been granted, so they are reversing his conviction.
The case will now go back to the Jefferson Circuit Court.
