OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Developers broke ground on six new townhomes in south Omaha as the city faces a shortage of nearly 30,000 middle and workforce-housing options by 2030.
The $2.5 million project at 29th and Jackson targets families with multiple children who have been squeezed out of the market, according to United Way of the Midlands data.
More than 50,000 people across Omaha pay too much in rent alone, with costs rising about $100 per year, United Way of the Midlands reports .
The organization’s data shows Omaha’s affordable housing stock has decreased by two-thirds in the last decade.
