Frustration set in for Dylan Siems after he missed a chance to finish off the Class 4A District 4 boys tennis final in the second set Thursday.
The Camas sophomore lost a second-set tiebreaker 7-5 to teammate Leo Zhao to extend the match to a decisive third set.
Siems slammed his racket as he walked to the sideline bench, drawing a point penalty, but he didn’t let that frustration boil over. He came out firing in the third set and won six straight games to defeat Zhao, the defending district champion and No. 1 seed, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-0.
“The second set was tough,” Siems said. “I missed a lot of opportunities to win that set, but I knew that in the third set I just had to focus — clean slate —just so I could hit my shots and play my game.”
