EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-Texas, joined over 50 House Democrats this week in urging utility companies to suspend penalties and shutoffs for federal workers and contractors amid the government shutdown.

The Democrats sent the letter to the following: Edison Electric Institute (EEI); the American Public Power Association (APPA); the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA); the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA); the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA); CTIA; and USTelecom, according to a news release sent by Escobar's office.

All associations above were encouraged to share the letter with their members.
