ROTTERDAM — Shenendehowa freshman Jolie Chichak has made a logical progression in the singles tournament of the Section 2 Girls’ Tennis Individual Championships, reaching the semifinals as a seventh-grader and losing in the final last year.
This year, as the No. 1 seed — two-time defending champion and state finalist Olivia Dartawan of Niskayuna is playing strictly juniors this year — Chichak took over the top spot with authority, rolling to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the final over No. 2 seed Isabel Amurao of Scotia-Glenville on Thursday at Sportime. She became the first girl from Shenendehowa to win the girls’ singles title.
