John Schneider just wants his stuff back.
Nearly two years have passed since the Blue Jays courted Shohei Ohtani , flying him into their spring training facility in Dunedin, Fla. to sell him on their vision of a championship-winning franchise. The Jays, manager Schneider said Thursday, gave him a hat and a jacket for his dog, Decoy.
The rest is ancient history now. The plane, the hope, the heartbreak. And Schneider has a bone to pick.
“I hope he brought it back finally,” Schneider said. “It’s like, give us our stuff back already.”
Schneider doesn’t seem caught up in the game of what could have been. He said he’s thinking about the 26 players he does have, not the one they missed out on: “Things worked out the way they’re meant to work out.”
