GRAND JUNCTION Colo. (KREX)- President Donald Trump’s suggestion to buy more beef from Argentina is drawing criticism from Colorado ranchers and lawmakers, who say the move could threaten U.S. cattle producers and the nation’s food supply.

The idea surfaced during a White House lunch earlier this week, where President Trump told senators he’s considering increasing beef imports from Argentina to help lower food prices. But the proposal immediately drew reaction from farm-state lawmakers and ranchers across the country who say it could hurt domestic producers and introduce new risks to U.S. livestock.

“The market has dropped the limit again on the board of trade,” said Mesa County rancher Janie VanWinkle and federal fellow for the AgriWest Initiative, who worries the president’s comments
