Darkness was quickly setting in at 6 p.m. Sunday evening when Arrowsmith Search & Rescue received a call about a missing hiker near Whiskey Creek.
Arrowsmith SAR manager Nick Rivers happened to be at their SAR headquarters beside the Qualicum Beach Airport and headed straight to the area knowing it was important to get a drone in the air as quick as possible.
“I left the building within five minutes and was there about 15 minutes after that,” he said.

The man had called for help on his cell phone after getting lost on a network of logging roads.
“Darkness was setting in so he decided he’d better call for help which was the right thing to do,” added Rivers.
Minutes later Rivers was at a gate by a logging road beside Highway 4 in Whiskey Creek and the DJI MATRICE
