At first glance, Ty Clayton looks like any other healthy, athletic person. But what you can’t see, hurts.

“What hurts right now?” “Everything,” he says with a grin that hides it surprisingly well.

Ty has ankylosing spondylitis, a brutal, invisible form of arthritis he’s battled since age 14. It hurts to tie his shoes, but for the last 11 days he’s been lacing them up to run a marathon a day.

He’s logged heavy highway miles all the way from Port Hardy to Victoria, covering more than 500 kilometres to raise awareness with a goal of $50,000 for arthritis research.

His motto? Make Arthritis Famous.
