BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Substance use disorder experts say they believe the key to making Burlington safer for you is a larger investment in the addiction recovery process.

That includes treatment and rehab, sober living homes, and long-term clinical solutions, like medication.

On Thursday night, a few dozen people gathered for the inaugural event at the South End Arts and Business Association Center. Panelists from across Burlington’s addiction recovery field shared what they believe is working, and what needs improvement.

“One of the first pieces that happens in their life that makes them start rethinking their relationship with substance use is usually a law enforcement intervention,” said Dan Hall, Director of Outpatient Services at the Howard Center.
