ANN ARBOR – Michigan’s hockey team knocked off the defending national champions on Thursday to remain undefeated.
Freshman goalie Jack Ivankovic made 32 saves to backstop the third-ranked Wolverines to a 4-0 victory over No. 2 Western Michigan at Yost Ice Arena.
In a heavyweight early-season title between two top-five teams, Michigan (7-0) started fast, scoring on its first shot 1:50 into the game. In one slick motion, Jayden Perron kicked Nick Moldenhauer’s pass from his skate to his stick and fired a quick shot underneath the crossbar for his fourth goal of the season.
