ALGOMA, Wis. (WFRV) - Construction of a new, modern fire station is officially underway in Algoma.

Algoma Fire and Rescue celebrated with Bayland Buildings Inc. on Thursday for the groundbreaking ceremony of its new facility.

Designed and built by Bayland Buildings Inc., the 19,100-square-foot building is designed with purpose in mind, seeking an efficient and functional space for Algoma Fire and Rescue crews.

The layout features roughly 5,800 square feet of offices, meeting rooms and operation spaces, 11,300 square feet of drive-thru and wash bays with a 2,000 square-foot mezzanine.

Officials expect completion next spring.
