A private Volvo bus carrying 40 passengers was completely gutted after it caught fire following a collision with a two-wheeler in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, early Friday morning.
The bus was on its way from Hyderabad to Bengaluru when the accident occurred near Chinna Tekur village around 3 a.m.
According to Kurnool Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil, the two-wheeler got stuck under the bus after the collision, likely causing a spark that led to the massive fire.
“Since it was an AC bus, passengers had to break the windows to escape. Those who managed to break the glass are safe,” he told media.
The bus had 40 passengers and two drivers on board. So far, 15 people have been rescued and admitted to a hospital, and the fire has been brought under control.
