DANE COUNTY, Wis. (WKOW) -- The Dane County Board of Supervisors on Thursday officially recognized October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, highlighting the importance of early detection and public awareness of prevention and treatment. The board passed Resolution 2025 RES-181 to mark the observance.

First established in 1985, Breast Cancer Awareness Month has promoted early detection and advanced treatments nationwide. In Dane County, about 139 residents per 100,000 are diagnosed with breast cancer, and only 74% are up to date on routine mammograms.

"The Dane County Board of Supervisors is proud to stand with residents and partners working to raise awareness and expand access to early detection and treatment," said County Board Chair Patrick Miles.
