SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Marshwood High School girls volleyball head coach Rob Childs said "the girls deserve this moment."
Seventh-seeded Marshwood beat No. 10 South Portland, 3-0 on Thursday, Oct. 23 in a Class A first-round game. Individual game scores were 25-19, 25-11, 25-16.
"Definitely an emotional win," Childs said. "Where we were (three) years ago when these (seniors) came in, it was like step one of a rebuilding program, and rebuilding a culture. They worked really hard. Girls who never touched a volleyball three years ago coming back to be aggressive, talented and together as they did is just a special feat."
The Hawks, who improved to 10-5 on the season, will face No. 2 Cheverus in a quarterfinal match on Saturday, Oct. 25. South Portland ended its season at 9-6.
